Disco Elysium

Another person you cannot stop thinking about? A conversation that goes somewhere unexpected? Or a choice you keep turning over afterwards?

Disco Elysium artwork

“The character dynamics and the way it makes you feel. That’s what stays with me.”

— just a humble game hunter madame, NextRun’s creator

The part of Disco Elysium that stays with you might be a relationship, the voices in your head, or the feeling of walking through a city full of people with their own history. A detective premise alone does not recreate that. Neither does simply having a lot of dialogue.

These picks follow different parts of that appeal: a community changed by your decisions, people trying to survive together, and a damaged protagonist discovering who he is. They are suggestions for what to try next, not promises of another Harry and Kim.

01 / A different reason to keep playing

For choices that change a community

Pentiment artwork

Pentiment

For talking to people, making a judgement and living with it.

Pentiment centres its historical mystery on people whose lives continue around your investigation. Your background influences the conversations you can have, and your decisions leave consequences across generations. It is a good direction if Disco made you care about the people affected by your choices, rather than just reaching the solution to a case.

The difference: Its world is sixteenth-century Bavaria, presented through manuscript-inspired artwork. You do not have Harry’s arguing internal skill voices, and the dialogue is not voiced. Choose it for the community and consequences; the setting, humour and presentation have their own character.

02 / A different reason to keep playing

For people worth coming back to

Citizen Sleeper artwork

Citizen Sleeper

For finding somewhere to belong in an unforgiving world.

Citizen Sleeper puts you on a space station as an escaped worker trying to build a life. You meet people, form connections and decide where to spend limited time and resources. The recommendation makes most sense if what stayed with you from Disco was caring about someone inside a world that does not make survival easy.

The difference: Dice are assigned to actions and managing daily resources is part of the story. This is a science-fiction life on a station, not a freely wandering police investigation. Its relationships are the connection here; the rhythm of play and the protagonist’s situation are different.

03 / A different reason to keep playing

For a damaged protagonist and unusual companions

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition artwork

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition

For conversations about who you were, and who you might become.

Planescape: Torment begins with an amnesiac protagonist and leads through a strange city and otherworldly places, with companions and dialogue at the centre of the journey. If Disco’s appeal was unravelling a person rather than merely solving a case, this is a compelling direction. Your history and the people travelling with you matter to the story.

The difference: It is an older fantasy RPG with real-time combat that can be paused, rather than Disco’s combat-free dialogue structure. The Enhanced Edition updates the presentation, but it does not turn the underlying game into a modern narrative adventure. Expect a different interface and pace.

Before choosing your next game

Is there another game exactly like Disco Elysium?

These games overlap with parts of its appeal, not the whole experience. Pentiment is the direction for social consequences, Citizen Sleeper for relationships under pressure, and Planescape: Torment for identity and unusual companions.

Which should I choose if I mostly loved the characters?

Citizen Sleeper is a starting point for building connections and finding belonging. Pentiment is worth considering if the wider community mattered; Planescape: Torment if you want companions tied to an unusual protagonist. Use the tool to combine characters, story, atmosphere or other available qualities.
